Evidence for /sup 116/Xe quasi-rotational bands populated in the decays of 07 s and 41 s /sup 116/Cs states

description The decay of mass-separated /sup 116/C has been investigated at the ISOLDE facility following spallation reactions induced by /sup 3/He of 910 MeV. It has been found that the short-lived isomer (T/sub 1/2/=0.72 s) populates mainly the first 2/sup +/ /sup 116/Xe level, whereas the state with T/sub 1/2 /=4.1 s must have a high spin (J>or=4). A scheme of /sup 116/Xe including levels of the quasi-ground-state, quasi-gamma and quasi-beta bands, has been established. The level structure of /sup 116/Xe is discussed in the framework of light even xenon systematics. (18 refs).
