Sumario: | The European organisation for nuclear research (CERN) puts at the disposal of scientists means to pursue research into the smallest particles of matter. These researches require the utilisation of bundles of particles which are accelerated to very high energies and then put into collision with other particles, and the interactions caused by the impact are studied. These experiments involve the recording of millions of events which are then analysed by computer. This role of the computer is described in this article. (0 refs). |
