Some problems arising in the optimisation of a process by computer and their solution
Contains a report on a seminar of CERN. A strategy is suggested for the computer optimisation of a process for which no mathematical model is known. As an example, the control of the CERN proton synchrotron is discussed, and the results analysed. (10 refs).
