Sumario:An iterative scheme for the pomeron is proposed. The first iteration generates diffractive large mass production and is found to explain satisfactorily the rise of sigma /sub tot/ at ISR energies. This contribution is represented by a non-vanishing triple pomeron coupling g. Asymptotically the iteration procedure generates a renormalization of the pomeron trajectory that ends up at 1+g. The Froissart bound is enforced through s-channel absorption. The behaviour of d sigma /sub 3l//dt can also be reproduced in the model. (24 refs).
