description | Track-based alignment of chambers in the Atlas muon spectrometer is an essential part of the alignment procedure, during commissioning (cosmics and in beam), and during physics runs. Good overall performance of the spectrometer requires a strong effort dedicated to this task. We present here a complete analysis aimed at performing track-based alignment using the H8 test beam data. Alignment-dedicated tracking tools, as well as track-based alignment algorithms, are described. Results including an estimate of the systematic uncertainty are given for several H8 runs. The systematic error is currently dominated by the lack of sensitivity to some degrees of freedom, due to special conditions of the H8 beam. Better performance is however expected during Atlas commissioning. |
