Magnetic monopoles in high-transverse-momentum proton-proton collisions
For a center-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s}=53 GeV, an estimate is given for the magnetic-monopole-antimonopole production cross-section for the reaction p+p to M+M+anything. Sumario: | For a center-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s}=53 GeV, an estimate is given for the magnetic-monopole-antimonopole production cross-section for the reaction p+p to M+M+anything. The mass spectrum for monopole pairs is calculated for the naive parton model, and the expected production rates are calculated for both the naive and renormalization-improved parton models. The gamma multiplicity distributions for both the naive and renormalization-improved parton models are given for a detector geometry that was utilized at the CERN ISR for the investigation of high-multiplicity gamma -ray production. |
