Calorimeter Cell Energy Thresholds for Jet Reconstruction in CMS

We have investigated the characteristics of calorimeter noise and its impact on reconstruction of low-\PT\ jets. We have proposed new thresholds for calorimeter cell energies, which can be applied when creating towers for reconstruction of jets and missing \ET\ (MET). The values of proposed threshol...

description We have investigated the characteristics of calorimeter noise and its impact on reconstruction of low-\PT\ jets. We have proposed new thresholds for calorimeter cell energies, which can be applied when creating towers for reconstruction of jets and missing \ET\ (MET). The values of proposed thresholds are effective in reducing noise contributions to jets, while removing less real jet energy than the often-used cuts on whole towers.
