Discovery potential for the MSSM H/A->mu+mu- decays from direct and associated H/A production

The ATLAS sensitivity for the H/A→ μ+ μ- decay ( mA =300 GeV/c2 and tanβ =30) has been estimated using the full simulation, for the initial detector running. The selection criteria have been optimized for both the direct and the associated production. For this particular point of the MSSM param...

description The ATLAS sensitivity for the H/A→ μ+ μ- decay ( mA =300 GeV/c2 and tanβ =30) has been estimated using the full simulation, for the initial detector running. The selection criteria have been optimized for both the direct and the associated production. For this particular point of the MSSM parameter space, the direct production is dominated by the irreducible Drell-Yan background. One has to rely on the associated production for which about a year running (10 fb-1) in the low "nominal" luminosity is necessary for obtaining statistically significant results (at the >3σ level). Indicative results at different mA's and tanβ are also given in the framework of the so called Mhmax scenario.
