Polarization studies in ttbar semileptonic events with ATLAS full simulation

Precise measurements of the top quark and W boson polarizations in ttbar events has been shown possible at a few percent level with 10 fb^{-1} of data and a fast detector simulation. These results are reevaluated in this note with a full detector simulation and a next-to-leading order generator for...

description Precise measurements of the top quark and W boson polarizations in ttbar events has been shown possible at a few percent level with 10 fb^{-1} of data and a fast detector simulation. These results are reevaluated in this note with a full detector simulation and a next-to-leading order generator for the semileptonic channel (ttbar -> W W b bbar -> l nu j1 j2 b bbar). A particular emphasis is given to reconstruction and selection efficiencies of electrons, muons, jets and missing transverse momentum, where the main differences with fast simulation are expected. A good agreement is found for selection efficiencies, background rejection and systematic uncertainties coming from the b-jet energy scale. This assess the robustness of the analysis and confirms the results published previously.
