Preparing for R501 at intersection I5, ISR

The experiment R501 was designed by the Annecy (LAPP)-CERN Collaboration to search for magnetic monopoles at the ISR intersection region I-5. The plastic (kapton) detectors were placed inside the ISR vacuum to detect monopoles accelerated on to them by a solenoidal magnetic field, and were moved by a remotely controlled mechanism, through the extension arm to the intersection bicone (Annual Report 1978 p. 120).
