Sumario:Ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions, in which the two nuclei pass close to each other at an impact parameter greater than the sum of their radii, provide information about the initial state of nuclei. In particular, J/ y production in such collisions proceeds by photon-gluon interactions, and gives access to nuclear parton density functions. The ALICE collaboration has published measurements of ultra-peripheral J/ y production in Run 1 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the rapidity range -3.6 < y < -2.6, and has obtained a substantially larger data set in 2015 from LHC Run 2. In this proceedings, the ALICE results on this topic, including the status of the current analysis, will be reported.
