Performance of the CMS ME1/1 muon station

ME1/1 is a part of the endcap muon system of the CMS detector at the LHC (CERN). It plays the key role in the muon detection providing muon track matching with the CMS inner tracker. ME1/1 should provide high spatial and time resolution. The station is composed of 72 6-layer cathode strip chambers....

description ME1/1 is a part of the endcap muon system of the CMS detector at the LHC (CERN). It plays the key role in the muon detection providing muon track matching with the CMS inner tracker. ME1/1 should provide high spatial and time resolution. The station is composed of 72 6-layer cathode strip chambers. The chambers were designed and produced at JINR (Dubna). ME1/1 is the innermost muon detector and operates in the strong axial magnetic field (B = 3 T) in the presence of high background of secondary particles. The paper presents the chamber design features and the ME1/1 station characteristics in the CMS runs with proton-proton collisions.
