Sumario:The two RICH detectors in LHCb have been successfully collecting data since 2010. They are essential for most of the physics publications from LHCb. An upgrade of the LHCb detector is designed so that, from 2021 onwards, it can collect data corresponding to 5 fb$^{−1}$ of integrated luminosity per year, in order to improve the statistical precision of the physics measurements and to search for very rare B-decays and D-decays. As part of the RICH upgrade, the HPDs will be replaced by MaPMTs in both RICH detectors. The prototypes of MaPMTs and their readout have been tested. The optics of the upstream RICH will be modified, which involves rebuilding most parts of this detector. An overview of the developments for the RICH upgrade and the corresponding particle identification performance are reported.
