Sumario: | To guarantee long-term reliability in the predictions of a numerical integrator, it is a well-known requirement that the underlying map has to be symplectic. It is therefore important to examine in detail the impact on emittance growth and noise generation in case this condition is violated. We present a strategy of how to tackle this question and some results obtained for particular PIC and frozen space charge models. |
