Sumario: | Unidentified falling objects (UFOs) could be a major limitation for nominal LHC operation. Therefore, in 2011/12, the diagnostics for UFO events were significantly improved, dedicated measurements, MDs and laboratory tests were performed and complemented by simulations (FLUKA & MadX) and theoretical studies. In this talk the state of knowledge is summarized and extrapolations for LHC operation with 25 ns bunch spacing and at higher energy are presented. An overview of the mitigation strategies (in particular BLM redistribution and MKI modifications) is given and a first evaluation is shown. |
