Sumario:An algorithm that reconstructs neutral pions in hadronic tau lepton decays in the ATLAS detector is presented. It subtracts energy deposited by charged hadrons in the electromagnetic calorimeter and identifies neutral pions in the remaining energy distribution. The information provided by the algorithm has a variety of applications in tau physics in ATLAS such as tau polarization studies, the identification of hadronically decaying taus or tau 4-momentum reconstruction.
