Sensitivity study of a search for a charged scalar particle in proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 14 TeV

description Many models that extend the Standard Model Higgs sector predict the existence of at least one charged Higgs boson, in addition to the neutral Higgs boson expected from the Standard Model. While many searches have been performed, a charged Higgs boson has not yet been observed. Using simulated data, the sensitivity of a search for a charged Higgs boson after the LHC Run 3 was studied. An analysis for a search in the channel $pp$ → $H+H−$ → ($W+γ$)($W−γ$) → ($jjγ$)($jjγ$) with a charged Higgs with a mass greater than 100 GeV was developed, and expected upper limits on the production cross-section times branching ratio of this process, σ($pp$ → $H+H−$)×$BR$($H± → W±γ$) $^{2}$, were calculated. Limits of 95.1−1.88 fb were set for charged Higgs bosons with masses in the range 130 − 500 GeV.
