Sumario:The LHCb experiment has distinctive features, providing novelpossibilities for production measurements needed to improve theinterpretation of cosmic ray observations in the space or throughatmospheric showers.In particular, LHCb has the unique possibility, among the LHCexperiments, to be operated in fixed-target mode using its internalgas target. The energy scale achievable at the LHC, the differentavailable nuclear targets and the excellentdetector capabilities for vertexing, tracking and particleidentification offer unique opportunities. Using a helium target, thefirst measurement of antiproton production in proton-helium collisionswas achieved using a 6.5 TeV proton beam, for antiproton energies inthe range 12-110 GeV. The results are particularly relevant to theinterpretation of the recent precise measurements of the antiprotonflux in cosmic rays.
