Rural women and cultural consumption of telenovelas: identity referents from the interaction. A case in the southeastern of Puebla

This article addresses direct and mediated interactions between rural women, utilizing interactionism and cultural studies in order to understand the factors that contribute to the construction of social identities. It examines the case of San Bartolo Teontepec, in the southeast region of the state of Puebla, Mexico, and concludes that the sense of identity derived from these interactions both constitutes and is constituted: it defines them, but is also susceptible to variation
