Sumario:The objective of this article is to assess the technical and economic importance of wind farms for energy development in Mexico. In addition, their growth is contrasted with the socio-environmental impact in the communities where these projects are installed. As main results they stand out; on the one hand, the important strategic value of these wind farms for business interest based on future economic benefits. On the other hand, the limited regulatory control of these practices is observed in the fiscal and socio-environmental aspects, the latter has caused some populations to organize and generate resistance. The methodology used was based mainly on a documentary review of different bibliographic and newspaper sources, official statistics were also used. Field work was not carried out in this particular case, although several areas with the presence of wind farms have been visited. This article is the product of a broader research on extractive and energy projects, which is in process, therefore, it responds to an in-depth study and detailed analysis on the subject
