Mining activity in Oaxaca: Current situation and perspectives

The article aims to publicize the current situation of mining activity in the state of Oaxaca. A description is presented of the main impacts that this activity generates for the state and some communities, and the perspectives of this activity. To achieve this objective, a descriptive-explanatory croos-sectional investigation was carried out based on the review of journalistic notes, scientific articles and official bases of government pages. The main findings are related to the presence of socio-environmental conflicts derived from this activity and the unequal economic retribution for the comuunities whose territory is exploited. It concludes on the need to make changes in the administration and regulation of this activity and the importance of a new planning of the territory in these types of projects that includes respect for the communities in order to avoid posible conflicts.
