description | The profitability in the greenhouse tomato production in Amacuitlapilco, Jonacatepec, Morelos is low, thus research was performed on the dynamics of innovation in their cropping systems. Farmers were surveyed and a catalogue with thirty innovations classified into eight categories was used. With this information, the farmer profile, his activity dynamics, and his social networks were characterized. The tomato production is 97% complemented with other crops, its average cropping area is 940 m2; the average yield is 19.0 kg·m-2. Only one third out of the total farmers considered in the survey had an innovation adoption index (InAI) higher than or equal to the average (InAI = 0.34). Categories with lower innovation adoption are plant nutrition, organization, and business administration. There was a positive correlation (r = 0.77) between expertise in the cropping system and the InAI. Farmers with higher InAI obtained higher yields and less variables. The technical information network showed no pair-consulting among farmers, but they are consulting the input suppliers instead. These results might help the integration of intervention strategies to improve the tomato crop profitability by transferring innovations. |

La rentabilidad de la producción de jitomate bajo invernadero en Amacuitlapilco, Jonacatepec, Morelos es baja, por ello, se realizó un estudio de la dinámica de innovación en sus sistemas de producción. Se encuestaron productores y se utilizó un catálogo con treinta innovaciones clasificadas en ocho categorías. Con esta información se caracterizó el perfil del agricultor, la dinámica de su actividad y sus redes sociales. La producción de jitomate se complementa en un 97 % con otros cultivos; la superficie promedio de cultivo es de 940 m2; el rendimiento promedio es de 19.0 kg·m-2. Solo una tercera parte de los productores encuestados tuvieron un índice de adopción de innovaciones (InAI) igual o superior al promedio (InAI = 0.34). Las categorías donde menos adoptan innovaciones son nutrición de planta, organización y administración del negocio. Se encontró una correlación positiva (r = 0.77) entre experiencia en el sistema de cultivo y el InAI. Los productores con mayor InAI obtuvieron rendimientos mayores y menos variables. La red de información técnica mostró que no hay consulta entre pares de productores, en cambio, ellos se asesoran con proveedores de insumos. Los resultados ayudarán a integrar estrategias de intervención para mejorar la rentabilidad del cultivo de jitomate mediante la transferencia de innovaciones.
