La Revista de Geografía Agrícola reproduce en esta ocasión una de las tesis presentadas en la Escuela Nacional de Agricultura para obtener el titulo de agrónomo en junio de 1943, titulada Cultivo del tomate en el Valle del Fuerte, cuyo autor es Alejandro Artee Jr. Dicho documento se conserva en el acervo de la Biblioteca Central de la hoy Universidad Autónoma Chapingo y corresponde a una copia a calca con una extensión total de 44 páginas. El documento resulta de sumo interés como antecedente de la producción comercial de tomate (Licopersicum esculentum), también conocido como jitomate en México, una hortaliza producida con fines comerciales, ejemplo de la aplicación de los avances tecnológicos generados por la ciencia moderna, tanto a nivel de nuevas variedades, sistemas de riego, protección física de los cultivos, fertilizantes, control químico de plagas y enfermedades, aplicación de mercadotecnia en el empacado, y trasporte del producto para ponerlo al alcance de los consumidores; generalmente, pensado para consumidores en el extranjero, aunque hay regiones y productos diseñados para el consumo nacional.
