The study was carried out during the months of July-December in 2014, during the rainy season; the method of information collection was developed through semi-structured surveys, field sampling and checking and laboratory analysis. The evaluated farms were selected from a stratified sampling and a simple random sampling applied to each group (high, middle, low). Three management systems were studied, the weaned calves, that of double purpose and the weaned calves and calves for fattening. The indicators used for the ecological assessment were; for the soil resource: pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter percentage, nitrogen, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, texture, bulk density, compaction, type of macro-fauna, worms, depth of roots, abundance of roots and soil color; for the water resource: pH, electrical conductivity, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, carbonates, bicarbonates, chlorides, sulfates; for vegetation: yield, vegetation cover, plant species to provide shade to animals, plant strata, plant coloring and invasive species (animal / plant). As observed, in the management systems, the lack of consistency between the use and conservation of natural resources such as the water, soil and vegetation is remarkable, which requires to look for alternatives of sustainable production. |

Se realizó una evaluación de la dimensión ecológica en unidades de producción bovina en la comunidad de Guivicia Santa María Petapa, Oaxaca. El estudio se llevó a cabo durante los meses de julio-diciembre del 2014, en el periodo de lluvias; el método de obtención de la información fue mediante encuestas semi-estructuradas, recorridos, muestreo en campo y análisis en laboratorio. Los ranchos evaluados fueron seleccionados de un muestreo estratificado y uno aleatorio simple aplicado a cada grupo (alto, medio, bajo). Se estudiaron tres sistemas de manejo, el de becerro al destete, de doble propósito y de becerro al destete y engorda. Se realizó la evaluación del recurso suelo, calidad del agua y vegetación. Los indicadores que se utilizaron para la evaluación ecológica fueron, para el recurso suelo: pH, conductividad eléctrica, porcentaje de materia orgánica, nitrógeno, fósforo, sodio, potasio, calcio, magnesio, textura, densidad aparente, compactación, tipo de macro-fauna, lombrices, profundidad y abundancia de raíces y color del suelo; para el recurso agua: pH, conductividad eléctrica, sodio, potasio, calcio, magnesio, carbonatos, bicarbonatos, cloruros, sulfatos; para la vegetación: rendimiento, cobertura vegetal, especies vegetales para sombra de los animales, estratos vegetales, coloración vegetal y especies invasoras (animal/vegetal). De acuerdo con lo observado, es notable en los sistemas de manejo la falta de congruencia entre el uso y conservación de los recursos naturales como son agua, suelo y vegetación, lo cual requiere buscar alternativas de producción sustentable.
