Sumario:Ecosystem resilience is a property of natural protected areas (NPAs) which is currently of great interest, given its relationship with disturbance regimes and the context of climate change. However, there are no contextualized guidelines to estimate and comprehensively manage its attributes in rural areas. Therefore, the objective of this study was to propose a methodology for managing ecosystem resilience of Colombia’s NPAs to cope with climate change. This theoretical and exploratory research is based on a systematic review of bibliographic information and the authors’ experience in territorial management processes. The results show a conceptual basis of the subject with key background and the methodological proposal integrated by five phases and 18 consecutive steps. It includes five major cross-cutting aspects: legal foundations, systemic vision, participatory and inclusive approach, as well as institutional, sectoral and community synergies. This methodological approach is expected to provide a frame of reference to guide the sustainability of natural systems and the well-being of associated rural communities
