Sumario:Ten years after started the educational research around the new skills for the 21st century, tools help us to get closer to them are still few. The objective is to validate the test Basic Learning in Citizenship (ABC, for the acronym in Spanish); and to describe the results of its application, developed within the framework of the Independent Measurement of Learning-MIA, through Citizen-Led Assessment, in the Yucatan Peninsula. To validate the instrument was applied to 324 primary and secondary school children. To look into the citizenship learning, a representative sample of households was selected in Yucatan. In total, 1 455 children and adolescents were interviewed, between 7 and 17 years old. The instrument has 16 items, four factors that explain 55.3% of the variance and a Cronbach's alpha of .72. The lowest basic learning in citizenship were tolerance and inclusion.
