Sumario:The objective of this article is to assess the role of culture for local development based on the proposal of participatory cultural mapping as a tool for the management of local governments. The conceptual nodes of local development are located, their imprint in the Cuban social sciences and a matrix containing the local cultural expressions is proposed as a resource for the promotion of local initiatives, an instrument that has begun to be introduced in the diagnoses Community.
