Las criptomonedas están basadas en la tecnología de la cadena de bloques. En México las criptomonedas están bajo la Ley Fintech, lo cual ha sido un reto desde que fue promulgada esta ley para las casas de cambio de criptomonedas. Las criptomonedas pueden usarse como medios de pago por su practicidad, rapidez, registro e inmutabilidad, asimismo se pueden realizar operaciones de inversión. La practicidad de estas permite impulsar inclusión financiera por las operaciones que se pueden efectuar con ellas.
