description This book is an exercise in memory, an effort to make visible the life stories of young people whose whereabouts, in most cases, are still unknown. Young people who have been criminalized, stigmatized or, as the least of the grievances, ignored, both by the authorities who should have found them and by a society that is afraid to get involved, that prefers to look the other way. Enforced disappearance of persons and disappearance by private individuals are crimes that affect not only the direct victim. These stories show the many ways in which the disappearance of a family member destroys the lives of close relatives and deeply damages the social tissue. The book is also a recognition of the relatives, mostly mothers, who have not given up their search, not for justice, because they know that this is unattainable in the country of impunity, but for a trace, a fragment, a hint of their loved ones. Their inquiries to find "living, dead or in clandestine graves" have not stopped over the years, even in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, with all that it has entailed. With great courage and dedication they claim their right to know what happened, to know the whereabouts of their relatives and, at least in the worst of circumstances, the right to a dignified grave for their children.

With great courage and dedication they claim their right to know what happened, to know the whereabouts of their relatives and, at least in the worst of circumstances, the right to a dignified grave for their children.
