Las reelaboraciones hagiográficas de matriz popular y el estudio de la religiosidad indígena

Múltiples registros etnográficos evidencian que las vidas de los santos transmitidas en la catequesis han sido reelaboradas a través de los años en las dinámicas de la religiosidad popular indígena, estableciéndose profundas divergencias respecto a las historias de vida difundidas por la jerarquía eclesiástica. En este sentido, el presente artículo analiza los procesos de reelaboración simbólica que se desprenden de las prédicas doctrinales centradas en las hagiografías; hace referencia a versiones populares de proyección contrahegemónica que revisten particular riqueza heurística en tanto descubren las claves simbólicas que se asignan a los santos. Tal es el caso de la versión de los huicholes sobre la relación entre la Virgen de Guadalupe y San José. Las mencionadas hagiografías, ideadas por las comunidades indígenas, son expresiones de los procesos de transformación cultural y las dinámicas sociales inherentes a las relaciones interétnicas. The Re-elaborations of Hagiographies of Popular Origin and the Study of Indigenous ReligiosityMultiple ethnographic records show that over the years the dynamics of indigenous popular religion reworked the lives of the saints, transmitted via the catechism, creating deep divergences with the official accounts propagated by the Catholic hierarchy. To this effect, the present article analyzes the processes of symbolic transformation that arise from doctrinal sermons focused on the hagiographies; it also refers to popular versions of counter-hegemonic projection, which have a special heuristic richness because they uncover the symbolic keys assigned to saints, for example, in the case of the Huichol version of the relationship between the Virgin of Guadalupe and Saint Joseph. The mentioned hagiographies, devised by the indigenous communities, are both an expression of the processes of cultural transformation and of the social dynamics inherent to interethnic relationships.
