La Segunda Reserva del ejército en Veracruz, 1900-1902

Cuando a principios del siglo XX el Ministerio de Guerra creó la Segunda Reserva del ejército, ésta gozó de una amplia recepción por parte de la sociedad veracruzana, pues su parecido con la institución de la desmovilizada Guardia Nacional, permitió a los reservistas contar con una serie de derechos y prerro­gativas. Esto dio al reservismo una enorme popularidad y provocó que un buen número de hombres de todas las clases sociales (pero en especial de la clase media) trataran de convertirse en oficiales reservistas. La amplitud de dicho movimiento alertó a Porfirio Díaz sobre una posible militarización de la socie­dad y la aparición de nuevas redes clientelares, lo que lo convenció de actuar en contra de la Segunda Reserva, logrando abolirla a inicios de 1903. The Second Reserve of the Army in Veracruz, 1900-1902When at the beginning of the twentieth century the Department of War created the Second Reserve of the Army, Veracruz an society received this institution with open arms, as its resemblance with the demobilized National Guard allowed the reservists to enjoy a set of rights and privileges. This in turn gave reserve service tremendous popularity, inspiring a wide spectrum of men of all social strata (but specially of the middle class) to try to become reservist officers. The wide spread nature of this movement, alerted Porfirio Diaz about a militarization of the society and the appearance of new clientelist networks, that convinced him to abolish the Second Reserve in early 1903.
