Sumario:THIS STUDY RE PORTS THE RESULTS OBTAINED IN A SURVEY APPLIED TO 749 USERS OF THE LIBRARIES CORRESPONDING TO THE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS AND FACULTIES OF THE UNAM. THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE SURVEY WAS TO OBTAIN A SET OF GENERAL DATA ON THE USE OF THE CARD CATALOG IN THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES OF THIS INSTITUTION. SOME OF THE DATA INCLUDED IN THIS STUDY ARE: FACULTY AND SEMESTER THAT LIBRARY USERS HAVE ATTAINED FRECUENCY OF LIBRARY ATTENDANCE MECHANISMS USED TO LOCATE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL MATERIALS IN THE LIBRARY ACCESS POINTS USED IN THE CATALOG DATA ON SUCCESSES AND FAILURES IN THE SEARCH FOR BIBLIOGRAPHICAL MATERIALS SIMPLICITY OR DIFFICULTY IN THE USE OF THE CATALOG INSTRUCTION RECEIVED BY THE USER ON THE USE OF THE LIBRARY LIKEWISE, THE RE ARE SOME INTERRELATIONS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT VARIABLES INCLUDED IN THE SURVEY. SOME OF THE RESULTS DERIVED FROM THE ANALYSIS OF THE DATA ARE: THE LIBRARY USER UTILIZED THE LIBRARY CATALOG ONLY IN HALF OF THE CASES ONLY 48.7% OF THE USERS HAVE RECEIVED INSTRUCTION ON THE USE OF THE LIBRARY THE ACCESS POINTS TO THE CATALOG WERE USED IMPROPERLY, INASMUCH AS THE USER SEARCHED MATERIALS ON A DE TERMINED SUBJECT BY AUTHOR OR TITLE. THE PARTICIPATION OF LIBRARIANS IN THE INSTRUCTION ON THE LIBRARY IS MINIMAL OTHER ASPECTS ON THE USE OF THE CATALOG ARE INCLUDED IN A MORE AMP LE MANNER IN THIS STUDY.
