Sumario: | THE PRESENT STUDY EX PLAINS, THROUGH A CRITICAL APPROACH TO THE WORK OF MARSHALL MCLUHAN, THE WAYS IN WHICH THE XX CENTURY REPRESENTS A POINT OF INFLECTION IN THE HISTORY OF THE WEST, BECAUSE, CHARACTERISTICALLY, IN THIS CENTURY FORM HAS TAKEN PRECEDENCE OVER CONTENT AS EXPRESSED IN MCLUHAN'S ADAGE "THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE"; THIS IS ESPECIALLY EVIDENT WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ELECTRONIC MEDIA. THIS SITUATION HAS HAD REPERCUSSIONS IN THE CRISIS OF BOOKS AND READING, WHICH ARE SUBJECTED NOW TO A NEW TEMPORALITY WHICH I CALL LIQUID TIME. THE CRISIS ALLUDED TO SHOULD BE UNDERSTOOD NOT AS AN END, BUT RATHER IN ITS ETYMOLOGICAL ROOT AS "TURNING POINT" FROM WHICH A NEW TRAJECTORY FOR BOOKS AND READING MAY BE SEEN. |
