Sumario:THE NEED TO MASTER FOREIGN LANGUAGES IN ORDER TO GENERATE AND USE SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION AS A PREREQUISITE TO ACHIEVING VISIBILITY AND IMPACT, AND THE DILEMMA FOR LIBRARIANS AND IN FORMATION PROFESSIONALS CAUSED BY THIS NEED AS THEY CARRY OUT THEIR TASK OF RESCUING AND DISSEMINATING CULTURAL CONTENTS AS WELL AS THEIR MANAGEMENT AND HANDLING OF SOURCES AND SYSTEMS OF INFORMATION PRESENTED IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES ARE APPROACHED IN THIS PAPER. EMPHASIS IS MADE ON THE DEARTH OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE MEASUREMENT METHODS NEEDED TO GAUGE THE USE AUTHORS MAKE OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE SOURCES IN THIS PROCESS. A MATHEMATICAL MODEL IS USED IN THIS BIBLIOMETRIC STUDY TO IDENTIFY THIS BEHAVIOR THROUGH AN ANALYSIS OF THE FLOW OF DOCUMENTATION FOR WORKS PUBLISHED IN SEVEN OF THE LEADING SCIENTIFIC MAGAZINES CONTAINING LIBRARY SCIENCE AND INFORMATION THEORY ARTICLES THAT HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED IN LATIN AMERICA OVER THAT LAST TWELVE YEARS.
