Sumario:Marketing of books in America, and especially in Mexico, was an important economic activity contributing to Spain’s industrial development from the 1920s forward, as it undertook the difficult task of enriching the cultural landscape. Publishing works by both Spanish and Mexican authors, Espasa-Calpe was among the first publishing houses to open in Mexico. This study provides an overview of the development of Espasa-Calpe Mexicana from its founding in 1927 until the end of the Franco dictatorship in 1975. By examining the distinct stages of its growth, this paper provides new insights into the history of publishing in both Spain and Mexico.
