Sumario:This study reflects about the need to adopt a digital identifier for authors and / or researchers which facilitates the control of authorities, as well as updating the curriculums and determining the metrics of the scientific production. It concludes that ORCID may be the most recommended indicator today. Considering the importance of scientific journals in the communication of results, we have analyzed the use of this indicator in the open access Spanish journals and verified a tendency to encourage the use of ORCID in these publications due to the ease of its adoption through editorial content management systems such OJS, its interoperability and its presence within the most cited academic journals.
