Este artículo de investigación se centra en las reflexiones sobre el oficio del bibliotecario en la Orden de la Merced. Para ello, se usa como fuente el documento histórico MS.10252 de la Biblioteca Nacional de México. El manuscrito es analizado desde la perspectiva histórica de trabajar con un solo documento y se toman en cuenta algunos postulados de los estudios sobre bibliotecas históricas, como los planteados por Concepción Rodríguez Parada e Ignacio Osorio Romero.
