Therefore, it is important to have time series that help us not only as input data for numerical and statistical models, but also to calibrate the data obtained with remote sensors (satellites and radars). In the state of Veracruz, estuaries are one of the most important aquatic systems due to their biodiversity. In order to understand the environmental changes that affect these systems, it is very important to have systematic hydrological time series that allows us to take measures to mitigate the negative effects impacting estuaries in the region, such as the climate change.

A lo largo del tiempo el ser humano ha incrementado su capacidad de observación y predicción de fenómenos naturales. Sin embargo, todo esto no habría sido posible sin una base de datos suficientemente larga como para poder distinguir cada uno de los procesos que intervienen en dichos fenómenos. Dado lo anterior, es de suma importancia contar con series de tiempo que nos ayuden no solo a alimentar los modelos numéricos y estadísticos, sino también a calibrar los datos obtenidos de forma remota (satélites y radares). En el estado de Veracruz, uno de los sistemas acuáticos de mayor relevancia ecológica, son los estuarios, debido a su biodiversidad. Con el objetivo de lograr entender los cambios ambientales a los que estos sistemas son sometidos, es de suma importancia contar con un monitoreo hidrológico sistemático que nos permita tomar medidas para mitigar los efectos negativos que los afectan, tal como el cambio climático.
