Comparison of the pain threshold between two palatine anesthetic techniques: direct palatine and indirect palatine

Treatments in the dental office represent a traumatic act for patients because of the pain caused by dental anesthesia. Objective: To determine the pain threshold between direct palatal and indirect palatal anesthesia techniques in patients of the School of Dentistry, Xalapa Region. Methodology: The pain threshold was measured using the analog numeric pain scale and classified into 4 categories; no pain, mild pain, moderate pain and intense pain. A collection card was designed and the analysis was carried out with an epidemiological program for statistical tests. Results: In general, the indirect technique registered a higher percentage of patients with no pain and the direct technique a higher percentage of moderate and severe pain, the difference between techniques was highly significant Conclusion: Understanding the degree of pain between two frequently used anesthetic techniques is important in the clinical management of patients to provide safe and quality care in their treatments.
