Sumario:The article discusses a range of fundamental scientific and applied issues relevant to problems of the Russia’s modernization being solved by the state, revealing the meaning, prerequisites, and consequences of state actions on the transforming socioeconomic space, as well as the composition, content, and effectiveness of the tools used for this. The results of research projects carried out in 2009–2019 were used. The goals were to theoretically generalize and systematically evaluate the experience of state regulation of spatial development and to substantiate priority areas for improving the tools of state influence on transformation of the socioeconomic space, taking into account new conditions and tasks. The research has made it possible to enrich the theoretical knowledge about the opportunities, risks, effectiveness, and efficiency of state action on key parameters of the spatial configuration of Russia’s economy and social sphere. In practical terms, the possibilities of scientifically substantiating government decisions on changing the spatial proportions of socioeconomic development have been expanded.
