Identification of bovine coronavirus in a Daurian ground squirrel expands the host range of Betacoronavirus 1
• BCoV DTA28 was identified in a Daurian ground squirrel (Spermophilus dauricus) in China. • BCoV DTA28 might have emerged through a spillover event from cattle to the rodent. • This is the first report of BCoV in rodents, highlighting the complexity of animal reservoirs for betacoronaviruses.
