description | A 51-year-old man who had been receiving steroid therapy for type 1 autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) for 3 years contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). As he had a high-grade fever and dry cough, and because his SpO(2) level had dropped below 95% in the supine position, he was considered as being at a high risk for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); therefore, he received combined REGN-COV2 antibody therapy. The patient's fever resolved immediately after this treatment, and he went into remission. A high cumulative steroid dose is associated with an increased susceptibility to infection. Early antibody cocktail therapy may be effective and rewarding for steroid-dependent type 1 AIP patients with a potential risk for SARS-CoV-2. |
