Sumario:Stroke remains one of the most devastating and challenging neurological diseases worldwide. Inflammation, as well as oxidative stress is one of the main contributors to post-stroke injuries, and oxidative stress can further induce inflammation. Moreover, the inflammatory response is closely related to immune modulation in ischemic stroke progression. Hence, major ischemic stroke treatment strategies include targeting inflammatory responses, immune modulation (especially immune cells), and inflammatory response to suppress stroke progression. To date, several drugs have demonstrated clinical efficacy, such as Etanercept and Fingolimod. However, only edaravone dexborneol has successfully passed the phase III clinical trial and been approved by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) to treat ischemic stroke in China, which can restore redox balance and regulate inflammatory immune responses, thus providing neuroprotection in ischemic stroke. In this review, we will comprehensively summarize the current advances in the application of inflammatory biomarkers, neuroinflammation and neuro-immunotherapeutic scenarios for ischemic stroke, thus aiming to provide a theoretical basis and new prospects and frontiers for clinical applications.
