Alzheimer's Progenitor Amyloid‐β Targets and Dissolves Microbial Amyloids and Impairs Biofilm Function (Adv. Sci. 29/2023)

Amyloid‐β Amyloid‐β (Aβ) is a neuropeptide whose aggregation leads to dementia. In article number 2301423, Daniel E. Otzen, Thomas Paul Davis, Ibrahim Javed, and co‐workers have discovered an anti‐biofilm role of Aβ where Aβ monomers target and destroy the microbial biofilms. This indicates a physio...

Sumario:Amyloid‐β Amyloid‐β (Aβ) is a neuropeptide whose aggregation leads to dementia. In article number 2301423, Daniel E. Otzen, Thomas Paul Davis, Ibrahim Javed, and co‐workers have discovered an anti‐biofilm role of Aβ where Aβ monomers target and destroy the microbial biofilms. This indicates a physiological role of Aβ as brain's defence system against local and distal microbial infections. [Image: see text]
