Sumario: | A 61-year-old man presented with epigastric pain and underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. A strongly erythematous area was found in the short segment of the Barrett's esophagus, and a biopsy revealed well-differentiated adenocarcinoma. Linear furrows were observed in the lower esophagus, and a biopsy of the lesion revealed eosinophil infiltration of 30 eosinophils per high-power field. Therefore, a diagnosis of Barrett's adenocarcinoma with eosinophilic esophagitis was made. Although rare, the incidence of Barrett's adenocarcinoma and eosinophilic esophagitis has been increasing in Japan in recent years, and the number of cases may increase in the future. |
