Sumario: | Intraoperative diagnosis is key in the management of patients with certain central nervous system diseases. Its role includes determination of adequacy of biopsy especially important when performing stereotactic biopsies and determination of neoplastic or non-neoplastic pathology. The intraoperative diagnosis guides the surgeon on the best plan of management for the patient. The techniques used for intraoperative diagnosis include touch prints, smears, and frozen sections. The aim of this study is to assess the concordance rate of intraoperative diagnosis and final diagnosis for patients managed for neurological diseases at the Aga Khan University Hospital. It is a retrospective study. All patients who underwent neurosurgical operations from January 2019 to May 2023 and had intraoperative diagnosis will be identified. The intraoperative and final diagnosis will be established from the laboratory information system and the rate of agreement determined. |
