description Cardiovascular disease is a major comorbidity associated with diabetes mellitus. Various antidiabetic drugs are currently used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus and have varying effects on the cardiovascular system. Some drugs, such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors, are cardioprotective, whereas others, such as insulin, have deleterious effects on the cardiovascular system. This narrative review assessed the impact of antidiabetic drugs on cardiovascular health in the management of diabetes mellitus. It critically examines various classes of these medications, including conventional options such as metformin and newer agents such as incretin-based therapies and SGLT-2.
