Sumario:Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is common but understudied compared with knee OA, and insights into the impact of this condition on the general population are needed. This review article summarizes findings from the 30-year, longitudinal, population-based Johnston County Osteoarthritis Project cohort to address the prevalence, incidence, and progression of hip OA and differences by sex and race; similarities and differences related to other joints; and impact on morbidity and mortality.
