| Sumario: | An experimental study upon the demonstrable effects of large doses of dried thyroid gland and thyroxin upon the myocardium of rabbits has been made. Animals under such treatment show characteristic clinical symptoms with definite, although relatively slight, myocardial lesions. Similarly treated animals which have, in addition, been subjected to chloroform anesthesia show more striking, widespread myocardial necrosis. These experiments indicate very distinctly that chloroform as an anesthetic in cases of hyperthyroidism is apt to be exceptionally detrimental to the myocardium, and should be avoided. |
