Sumario:Acute renal hypertension is produced by the injection of the amino acid dopa (l-dihydroxyphenylalanine) into the partially or completely ischemic kidney of the cat. Evidence is presented suggesting that the rise in blood pressure following the injection of dopa is caused by its conversion into hydroxytyramine, a pressor amine. Kidneys with normal blood flow fail to transform dopa into a pressor substance.
